Introduction
Students read and try to understand the message of the book I am Malala. Students also searched on the Internet information about Malala’s evolution, the religious and political situation in Pakistan. They also got familiar with the children’s rights. In class, they work in group to solve different tasks related to the content of the book and children’s rights using different online resources.
Process
Starting from the message of the book, students have to carry out various tasks related to children's rights: the right to education, the right to liberty, the right to have a family, the right to express opinions, the right to equal chances. The teacher divides students into 5 groups and assigns the following tasks: 1. Group A: What rights did Malala have in school? What rights do you have as a student in a Romanian school? – make a composition about the right to education (use story jumper app. or book creator.com) 2. Group B: Do girls have the same chances to education as boys? - make an essay in which to analyse gender equality and chances. Illustrate this right through a poster using Pic Collage app. 3. Group C: What does school mean to you? - make a drawing / poster / an eBook to answer this question 4. Group D: Why is Malala a symbol of the peaceful fight for the right to education? – analyse Malala's speech at the UNO and create your own speech to advocate the right to education for children in undeveloped countries. 5. Group E: What are the traits of Malala's character? - Make the portrait of this brave girl - characterize the main character in the book. Students can use different online applications to present or realize their final product: book creator, story jumper, pic collage, QR code, PPT, etc.. Students identify in the book the fragments that help them solve the task, discuss, negotiate, search for information on the Internet, and establish the application they use, collaborate and cooperate to make the final outcomes. Students communicate, propose different ideas, negotiate, compare the information obtained from different sources, analyse and find the right words to express their opinions. The teacher intervenes if necessary. Each group will present the final product while the other students may ask questions or come up with further ideas and suggestions. Teacher provides feedback and may initiate further discussions on related topics such as: discrimination, human rights, access to education etc.
