PROCESS
1st part: 80 min
1. The children watch a YouTube video and observe a dragon’s moves. Then, they are asked to stand and imitate the dragon’s moves using their head, chest, upper body and hands.
2. They have to sing dragons song in order for the story to begin. The song has missing words in the end of each verse. The children are organized in groups and each group has to complete a stanza of the song. The words are given to the kids and they have to choose the right ones based on the meaning and the rhyme. When the children write the words in the gaps, each group has to sing their stanza in a specific way which is determined by throwing two dices. There are many options written on the dices. The first dice controls the volume and other characteristics of the voice, whereas the second one determines the feeling.
3. The story begins. The teacher reads part of the story and stops at the point where the hero of the story talks about his brave accomplishments. A child stands, it becomes Spanos and tells a brave act of his. The other children repeat whispering what they heard. More children stand one by one, become Spanos and tell different brave acts. The other children repeat whispering.
4. The narration of the story continues. Children have to guess a negative and a positive thought of Spanos while he is leaving his village to meet the dragons and defeat them. Children write the thoughts on a worksheet. A child becomes Spanos and moves among the children. While Spanos is moving, the children say their written thoughts. When Spanos hears a negative thought, he becomes sad, when he hears a positive one, he changes his expression and he becomes happy.
5. The narration continues. Spanos meets the chief of the dragons. Spanos and the dragon agree to execute two bets. If Spanos wins, the dragon will not eat him. Each group of children take a card. Each card has the two bets written and children have to decide which one they will present. They also have the option to write down their own bet and present it.
2nd part: 80 min
1. The narration continues. At the dragon’s castle the dragons have to discuss and bring arguments to support their opinion of accepting Spanos to stay with them or not. The children become the dragons and the teacher takes the role of the chief. This is how the dragon council takes place. The teacher as the chief, listens to all the arguments and decides that Spanos stays. The arguments can be written on a worksheet following a specific structure and a specific shape (following the outline of a dragon, a calligramme)
2. Children will discover the rest of the story by playing and creating still images. Every team takes a written part of the story. Based on specific part, each group must show the meaning by creating two still images. Children take their time to read the passage and think the still images.
3. The teacher brings the groups in front of the classroom having in consideration the chronological order of the story. In this way, the story is presented through the still images. The children can use some objects that the teacher has brought in the classroom and they are mentioned in the story. While the children show the still images, the teacher reads the story. In this way, the story comes to an end. The teachers takes photos of the still images.
